Toye Trailer

A dump trailer’s hydraulic system is what makes it worth every penny — but neglect it, and you’ll find yourself hand-shoveling a full load on a job site. Here’s how to keep it running strong. ## Check Hydraulic Fluid Regularly Hydraulic fluid level should be checked before every use. Low fluid causes poor performance and can damage the pump. Use the fluid type specified in your owner’s manual and never mix different fluid types. ## Inspect Hoses and Fittings Look for cracks, abrasions, or bulges in hydraulic hoses. Check all fittings for leaks after every few uses. Even a small leak can quickly drain your system and create a mess. ## Battery Maintenance Most dump trailers use a 12V battery to power the hydraulic pump. Keep the battery charged, clean terminals regularly, and replace it every 2–3 years or when you notice slow lift performance. ## Cylinder Inspection The lift cylinder should move smoothly and show no signs of oil seepage around the seals. If you see hydraulic fluid weeping from the cylinder, it’s time for a seal replacement. ## Seasonal Storage Tips Before storing your dump trailer for extended periods, fully retract the cylinder, add a fuel stabilizer to the battery tender, and cover the trailer to protect it from the elements. ## When to Call a Professional If your trailer lifts unevenly, lifts slowly under load, or makes unusual noises, have it inspected by a qualified trailer service tech before your next use.
